Every iPhone and iPod Touch has a unique device identifier (Unique Device Identifier, UDID), which is a combination of 40 letters and numbers that are specific to your device. It is like an internal serial number, but it is difficult to figure out what it stands for. it could look something like this: 2b6f0cc904d137be2e1730235f5664094b831186.
Your iPhone can only install programs which are approved by Apple. Applications in the App Store must be approved by Apple prior to General Distribution to customers, but this allows customers to be able to try an App prior to it going to the App Store. We register your UDID with Apple so they can approve our application specifically for your device (iPhone or iPod Touch).
You can copy/paste your UDID from iTunes or e-mail it directly from your device using a free app from the App Store. Both examples can be seen below.
Go to the App Store on your iPhone and search for Ad Hoc Helper. Install and run the App. The App will create an e-mail with your UDID. Send the e-mail to the software developer who you want to give access to the App you are testing. Once the software developer receives your UDID they will register the device so you are able to test the version of the App prior to it's release in the App Store.
